Don't Look Back

"An endless fascinating film. DONT LOOK BACK is really about fame and how it menaces art, about the press and how it categorizes an original like Dylan."

- Newsweek

"Portrait of the young Dylan tearing the pop world apart!"

- Mikal Gilmore, L.A. Herald Examiner

Three decades since its initial theatrical run, Pennebaker's legendary film returns to the screen offering a behind-the-scenes account of a young Bob Dylan. This is a rare opportunity for a new generation to experience the making of a legend whose imperfect voice and soulful images had the power to transfix an audience of thousands. Directed by one of the pioneers of cinema verité, the camera follows the singer and his entourage as they combat the mass adulation, frenzied press coverage and the rigors of the road.

dylan and pennebaker Shot during Dylan's spring 1965 tour of England, which culminates in two concerts at London's Royal Hall, DONT LOOK BACK captures the 23-year-old Bob Dylan, (born Robert Zimmerman), as an enigmatic combination of ultimate performer and restless individual -- a man who refuses to acknowledge or accept the labels put on either himself or his music. DONT LOOK BACK provides a rare opportunity to view a music legend at a time when he was developing not only his personal style, but a new kind of popular music as well.

Other members of his traveling cast include singer Joan Baez and piano-player, song-writer Alan Price, then of the The Animals.

DONT LOOK BACK (U.S./35mm/96 min) was Directed by D.A. Pennebaker and produced by Albert Grossman and John Court.
